(PRWEB) November 9, 2006 -- For the first time in US sports history the Top 5 college basketball programs of All-Time in NCAA Division 1 will celebrate 500 years of combined play. "The Phat 5" started at different times between 1899-1920.

UCLA 88 years, 1920-2006-07
Kansas 109 years, 1899-2006-07
Duke 102 years, 1906-2006-07
"The Phat 5" of College Basketball at 500 Report Volume #1
The bi-weekly report will be released in a 12-Volume Special Collector's press release during the entire season that will be available for all college basketball and sports fans. The report will list each "Phat 5" program game results, conference, and national rankings all the way to the National Championship game Monday April 2, 2007. There will be a ranking of the "Super 5" of The Phat 5, the top player from each team. Which "Phat 5" player will be selected as a possible National Player of the Year finalist or selected as an All-American. All 12 Special Collector's press releases will be dedicated to a "Phat 5" program legendary coach or player. The following dates below will be for the Special Collector's press releases.

Dr. James Naismith is the inventor of the game of basketball and was the first basketball coach at Kansas. The basketball court at Kansas Allen Fieldhouse is named in his honor.
There has been at-least one of "The Phat 5" at the Final Four for 19 consecutive years 1988-Present.

North Carolina: The Tar Heels will be looking to became National Champs for the second time in 3 years during the 2006-07 season. They are led by National Player of the Year candidate Tyler Hansbrough, Wes Miller, Marcus Ginyard, and Reyshawn Terry. The Heels were 23-8 last season. Coach Roy Williams is one of 3 best coaches in the land. Carolina has 3 Parade and McDonald's All-America selections added to their roster Brandon Wright, Ty Lawson, and Wayne Ellington. Look for UNC to be one of the "Big Dance" participants at the Final Four. UNC opens the season Nov. 14 vs. Sacred Heart.
Kansas: The Jayhawks are stacked with the deepest team in the nation. Kansas were 25-8 last season returning is National Player of the Year candidate Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Russell Robinson, Julian Wright, Darnell Jackson, and Sasha Kaun. Freshman Darrell Arthur and Sherron Collins will help make Kansas a serious Final Four contender. Bill Self is on the hot-seat and needs to bring Kansas its first National Championship since the "How You Like Me Now" days of Danny Manning and Larry Brown in 1988. Kansas opens the season Nov. 11 vs. Northern Arizona.
UCLA: The Bruins who played in last seasons National Championship game lost Cedric Bozeman, point guard Jordan Farmar, and Ryan Hollins. UCLA posted a 32-7 record last season. National Player of the Year candidate Arron Afflalo will lead a Bruin squad with forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, and Josh Shipp who is returning from season ending hip surgery. UCLA will be looking to improve on their runner-up performance. The Bruins have a legitimate chance to make it back to the Final Four. UCLA opens the season Nov. 15 vs. Brigham Young.
Duke: The Blue Devils lost 2 First Team All-Americans last season in J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams to the NBA Draft. Duke was 32-4 last season returning is National Player of the Year candidate Josh McRoberts, Greg Paulus, and DeMarcus Nelson. They will be leading a young and retooled Duke squad. Freshman McDonald's All-American's Gerald Henderson, Jon Scheyer, and Lance Thomas will have the opportunity to make an impact. Duke will more than likely make the Big Dance and make a push to the Sweet 16. The Devils opens the season Nov. 12 vs. Columbia in College Basketball Experience Classic.
Kentucky: The Wildcats will looking to bounce back from a 22-13 record last season. UK will have Randolph Morris for an entire season he missed the first 10 games of last years campaign. The Cats lost point guard Rajon Rondo to the NBA Draft. Joing Morris will be Ramel Bradley, Joe Crawford, Sheray Thomas. The freshman class of Derrick Jasper, Jodie Meeks, Michael Porter, and Perry Stevens will be trying to help make Kentucky one of the elite teams in the country once again. UK opens the season Nov. 15 vs. Miami (Ohio).
