Women's Championship Court Travels from Michigan to Florida for NCAA Final Four

Amasa, Mich. (PRWEB) March 28, 2008 -- The countdown to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Women's Final Four? begins Thursday, March 27, as a semi-truck and trailer carrying the Championship Court leaves Connor Sport Court on The Road to the Final Four® for its journey to the NCAA Women's Basketball Championships in Tampa on April 6 and April 8. The court was constructed in Amasa, Michigan at the plant of Connor Sport Court International, Inc. Connor Sport Court International is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah.

NCAA® Women's Basketball is saluted by the presence of the Connor hardwood court as it makes its way to the St. Pete Times Forum aboard a specially-marked semi-truck and trailer. Watch for the truck when traveling.

On Thursday, March 27, the Championship Floor will be traveling from the Connor Sport Court plant's home state of Michigan and as it travels Connor Sport Court honors and commemorates Michigan's contribution to 2007 Women's Division I basketball history when Carrie Moore of Western Michigan was ranked number one in points per game for the season, finishing with an average of 25.4. points per game. Connor also salutes Allyssa DeHaan of Michigan State who was number two nationally in blocked shots per game in 2007.

On the same day, the court will be on Interstate 94 through Illinois, and Connor Sport Court salutes Stephanie Raymond of Northern Illinois who was number three in the percentage of free throws made in 2007, with a 90.1 per cent rate.

On Friday, March 28, the court is in Indiana where Connor Sport Court salutes the great women's teams of Purdue, who won the NCAA Women's Final Four in 1999, and Notre Dame, winners in 2001.

The court will travel through Kentucky, where Connor Sport Court honors and recognizes Crystal Kelly of Western Kentucky, who in 2007 was ranked number two nationally for average points per game (24.1) and number two in field goal percentages (61.1).

On Saturday, March 29, the Connor Championship Floor moves into Tennessee where women's basketball has become legend: University of Tennessee has won the Women's Final Four Championships in 1987, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998 and last year in 2007, where along with Coach Pat Summit the school has set records that will be on the books for a long time to come.

That same day the floor moves onto Georgia. Although no school in the state has yet won the Championship, Connor Sport Court salutes all of the thousands of staff within Georgia colleges and universities that together with the NCAA provide guidance and direction to these outstanding institutions.

On Sunday, March 30, the Final Four Championship floor enters its destination state, Florida, where Connor Sport Court honors the student athletes of the NCAA, those women who have shown how discipline, courage and hard work have come to exemplify American ideals.

The history of the NCAA basketball championship is entwined with the court on which the game is played. Connor has been in business since 1872, and women's basketball was first played at Smith College in 1892. The court, a QuickLock portable court system, was constructed by Connor especially for the NCAA Final Four. It is built from maple in strict accordance with NCAA specifications. Connor Sport Court is a member of the Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association and adheres to the stringent environmental guidelines of that organization. Hardwood used in the courts is from a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than is harvested each year.

The route of the truck is expected to move along Interstate 94 in Illinois; then to I-65 through Indiana and Kentucky, turning onto I-24 in Nashville. From I-24 the court travels to take I-75 from Atlanta to Tampa.

Connor Sport Court International also provides courts for the Final Four Men's Championships. For a separate release on the Final Four Men's court contact Jeff Morton, 801-414-6159.

More athletic events are played on Connor Sport Court surfaces than on any other sports flooring in the world. Sport Court® is a registered trade mark of Connor Sport Court International. It is used to identify the original and authentic modular sport surfaces developed and introduced in 1974
