National Association of Basketball Coaches Launches Talk Radio Show with Debut of 'The College Basketball Experience' on the VoiceAmerica Ne

Phoenix, AZ (PRWeb) March 11, 2007 -- Jim Haney, the Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches launches a new internet talk radio show which allows listeners to participate in active, open discussions on current topics in college basketball. Haney brings to the VoiceAmerica Network insight from today's top college basketball coaches as well as stories and opinions from the Legends of College Basketball. "The College Basketball Experience" debuts on the VoiceAmerica™ Network on Wednesday, March 14, 2007.

Haney's debut show, "March Madness - Breaking Down the Bracket" will break down the NCAA tournament brackets with special guest, Jim Larranaga, head coach at George Mason University (GMU). Haney and Larranaga, who's Patriots reached the Final Four last season, will try to pick another "Cinderella" and will discuss what the year was like for mid-major GMU a year ago.

This show will also have the first of a three-part interview with Hall of Famer John Wooden. Wooden, now 96 years young, is one of only three players elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player and coach. He was the National Player of the Year at Purdue in 1932, leading the Boilermakers to the national championship. Wooden coached at UCLA from 1948-75 with an overall record of 620-147. He led UCLA to 10 NCAA championships, including seven straight from 1966-73. He was a six-time national coach of the year. Wooden's Bruins had four 30-0 seasons, won 88 consecutive games, 38 straight NCAA tournament victories and won 19 PAC-10 championships. In 40 years of coaching, his teams had an overall won-lost record of 885-203 for a winning percentage of .813. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1961 and as a coach in 1973. Wooden was a member of the founding class inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. The series will continue in each of the next two weeks.

About Jim Haney:
Jim Haney assumed duties as the National Association of Basketball Coaches executive director in June 1992. He is the fourth full-time executive director in the 75-year history of the NABC. Prior to accepting this position, Haney spent four years as commissioner of the Big West Conference. His college basketball portfolio includes more than 31 years of experience starting as a student-athlete at the University of Pennsylvania. Shortly after graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1971, Haney joined the University of Oregon coaching staff as an assistant under his former Penn coach, Dick Harter. Haney later succeeded Harter and coached the Duck's basketball team for five years beginning with the 1978-79 season.
